Family Brunch Ideas

Yesterday I hosted my first brunch with my entire family at my place to celebrate both my sister’s birthday and my niece moving to LA.  There was definitely some prep work involved, including ironing the tablecloth, but the effort truly shows in the end result. No one likes wrinkles in a tablecloth!

I found these gold and pearl napkin rings at Bed, Bath and Beyond (aka BBB) this past week. They were just what I was looking for to complete my table setting. They are like little table jewels.  Normally rings are about $3-$7 per ring, so image my excitement when I found these on clearance for 99 cents each! The gold chargers are also from BBB and the runner was part of the Nate Berkus for Target collection from last year. I love a lot of his pieces that he designs for Target. They can just be very hard to find sometimes because they sell out so darn fast!

Each place setting had a handmade name tag for a little-personalized touch. I just used poster board and a silver permanent marker to make them.

I had coffee brewing all day with this little mug, sugar & creamer station set up. This white tray is SO useful. I originally bought it to decorate the living room, but I am constantly using it to set up to serve snacks and beverages.  Plus, the white surface makes any colors you add to it really pop. The sugar pot and the mini bowls the flowers are in were a score at a local Good Will. It is amazing what you can find there sometimes.

Mini fruit and yogurt parfaits were in these darling mini flare dessert cups that I found at BBB. They come in a set of 12 and they actually include mini spoons in the set. My family thought that since they were so pretty, they were just for decoration. I was like, a no- please eat them.

Not having enough food is like a hostess’ nightmare so I had a ton of options for people to choose from. The brunch consisted of:

– two salads
– scrambled eggs
– cajun sausage
– waffles with whipped cream & fresh fruit
– croissants

I would have taken photos of the food, but literally, as soon as we put it out it was gone.

For appetizers I had a bowl of mixed nuts, peanut butter filled pretzels from Trader Joes (OMG amazing!), fresh fruit and yogurt parfaits (pictured above.) The glass tray was another Home Goods find.

Because we had children present, I decided to make my bar cart kid-friendly by having a variety of juices: orange, lemonade, pineapple, and cranberry. Almost every item on here is from Home Goods except the polka-dot placemat which was an amazing score in the Dollar Spot at Target. I wish I could have found more than 2, but I am happy I got at least that! The 1.5-gallon beverage dispenser literally arrived at my doorstep from BBB the day before the brunch. I am glad I did not get the 2 gallons because this size is plenty big. There are a few sliced up lemons in the lemonade. It gives it a nice festive touch.

I found baby’s breath at the grocery store and really wanted to find a way to incorporate it into a bouquet. So I picked up these beautiful pink roses and my sister (a future florist) put together this darling bouquet for me while we were cooking together.

Looking forward to testing out some new recipes and table decor for the next gathering I host. If you know of any recipes I should try to leave me the link in the comment below! Thanks for reading and make sure to check out more of my posts on entertaining here.

xoxo,
Laura
