Another Laura Lily Collection Design

Leave it to my dad to give me some of the best advice I have ever received. About a year ago he asked me what my plans for the future were. I gave him some ideas, but honestly I did not know. He asked why don’t I become a designer? I love to create things. I said, “Maybe in my next life. Right now there are too many other things I want to do than devote my life to a fashion line.” This is when he said to me, “Laura don’t wait, start doing what you love to do now.” His words sparked the start of my jewelry line, Laura Lily Jewelry. I began sketching like crazy and buying fabric I had no idea how to work with. I didn’t care. I still don’t. When I put my mind to something, magic happens. Remember the dress I designed and made all by myself for Snowball? That was a perfect example. It was maybe my second time using a sewing machine but I was so determined to learn that the result actually turned out okay. The dress stayed together all night so that was a plus. The dress I am wearing in these photos is another creation of mine. A patterned maxi dress made with a beautiful metallic chiffon fabric. It is actually two separate pieces, a maxi skirt and tube top. I was inspired to make it this way after seeing seeing Gwen Stefani pair two matching separates together. If I do start my own line, I still do not know if I would call it the Laura Lily Collection or just my real name, Laura Yazdi. Luckily I have some time to think about it.
I have yet to give up my day job and pursue fashion full-time. Someday it will happen, for now now I am dipping my toes in different things to see which one I want to dive into. Don’t wait to do what you love, find the time and do it.
