JW Marriott Turnberry Resort, Miami

The second leg of our Florida road trip was spent at the JW Marriott Turnberry resort and Spa in Miami.  After a few crazy fun days on Marco Island, Liz and I headed over to the Turnberry Resort. We checked into one of their penthouse suites complete with 2 bedrooms, a stunning master bathroom, living and dining rooms, a small kitchen and sweeping views of the Miami skyline.

A Day at the Waterpark

On our first day, we lounged by the pool sipping cocktails before spending the night in with room service. Thursday, we decided to spend a day at the Tidal Cove Waterpark. I hesitated to go thinking that waterslides were a thing of my past. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip! We enjoyed a delicious lunch with a few cocktails, then headed to the lazy river for an hour before climbing the stairs to the 5 waterslides on the property. We started off with raft rides before pushing our limits with the “Aqua Drop:” a ride that literally drops you straight down.

Lastly, Liz was brave enough to try out body boarding on the Tidal Wave. I decided to pass on this ride to hold her jewelry and videotape her experience. (That, and I was afraid to lose both my top and bottoms. Definitely recommend a one piece for this particular ride.) There was a family having a Hawaiian themed birthday party all dressed up in hula skirts and lais sipping cold drinks out of coconuts. Definitely where I’d like to have my birthday party next year.

Dinner at International Smoke

That night we enjoyed dinner at the International Smoke restaurant located at the Aventura Mall. Don’t bother with an Uber like we did. It is literally walking distance across the street from the hotel and after you enjoy all the delicious food, a walk back will feel great. The food is a blend of different cultures take on BBQ and absolutely delicious. Don’t forget to take some of their fresh baked cookies to go!

Golf Lesson at Turnberry Country Club

Thursday morning Liz and I took our very first golf lesson with Ray Boone. We hadn’t packed the appropriate golf attire, so we ran downstairs to the Golf Pro Shop and picked out coordinating golf outfits. I’d say we looked like golf pros ready for the PGA tour in our branded Turnberry Country Club shirts. Ray showed us the basics and took us on a lovely tour around the golf course teaching us some of the course etiquettes. Definitely recommend signing up for a golf lesson while you’re at Turnberry!

Girls Night Out

Our last night at the Turnberry Resort in Miami concluded with dinner at the Bourbon Steak restaurant located in the hotel lobby. The place was the spot to be on Friday night and the staff took great care of us recommending different types of wines for each course and then spoiling us with a menaje a trois of desserts with coordinating ice cream flavors. Highlights: the girls loved the tuna tar tar while I was a big fan of the truffle mac & cheese, lobster pea risotto, and the dessert wines.

The Cryo Treatment

Friday was spent at the JW Marriott Turnberry Ame spa trying out the Fire & Ice treatment. It’s a mix of a Cryo therapy and sauna experience.  A “frozen adventure” as I like to call it. For the Cryotherapy, you’re blasted with -100 to -200-degree Celcius gas. It was intimidating at first, but after trying it once and knowing the benefits including improved circulation, decreased inflammation, aid in weight loss, I’d do it again and make it to -200 next time. We dethawed in the sauna and got to experience the Himalayan Sea Salt room after our appointment before finishing with a Cryo facial. Absolutely refreshing after enjoying the sauna for 20 minutes.
