Borrowed from the Boys: Menswear for Women
Some days it’s fun to put away the bows and borrow a bit of style from the boys. Think loafers, pantsuits and bold prints. It’s nice to trade in a pair of stilettos for a comfortable pair of flats. Especially when they are blue suede shoes.
Try at tie…
Menswear style for women is more than just loafers and pant suits. Ever wear a tie? It’s a fun way to incorporate an accessory that is usually reserved for men into our own looks. If you ever watch the TV show Peaky Blinders, the badass female boss Polly Gray wears ties on the regular and owns it. I own three ties myself and made sure I learned how to tie them properly so that if I ever got into a bind having to tie one in public, I would not have to ask anyone for help. Create an extra polished look by tucking said tie into a matching suit vest or even go as far as to use a tie clip.
Another thing I love about menswear are their wide range of patterned suits. From fourties inspired pinstripes to classic plaid, why should men have all the pattern fun? Incorporate a head to toe pattern suit into your own wardrobe. Recognize this plaid suit in the photos? It’s a favorite of mine seen previously on the blog here and here. This bold plaid pantsuit is also a favorite.
Switch out skirt for pants…
Culottes and wide-leg pants are unique to women’s fashion and still make a statement. Here’s a look I created with paperbag waist culottes and a cape.
Embrace masculine outwear…
To top off any look, opt for a sassy fedora and slightly oversized trench coat like. My personal favorite is my mom’s vintage Burberry trench that I drape over my shoulders if it’s not quite cold enough to wear.
