Today I wanted to share the highs and lows of being your own boss.  Taking my blog full time this year is definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made. It gives me the freedom to work according to my own schedule. I can run my errands in the middle of the day when everyone else is at work. I can schedule trips and meetings at my leisure and do not have to wait for a weekend or holiday to do so. There isn’t anyone breathing down my neck about deadlines or my to-do list. Each day I am able to decide what I want to focus on and set my own goals for myself and my business.

However, the highs also come with the lows…. There are days when I find myself completely unmotivated.  Either I’m in a creative rut or I’ve had a slew of “no’s” from proposals I worked so hard on.  A never-ending to-do list can be overwhelming.  As my business grows, my list never seems to get shorter, only longer. Every day hiring an assistant sounds like the best idea ever. However, having to financially plan for a new business in a new kind of industry puts that decision on hold….for now anyway. (But if you know of anyone interested in becoming my assistant, I would love to keep them in mind for next year when I do hire!)

The best part about all of this, though, is the fulfillment of knowing that the success of my business rests on my shoulders. However much I put into my business is how much I will get out of it. And that is a great feeling. Right now I may have to handle all of the titles associated with being a digital influencer (stylist, assistant, editor, coffee runner, negotiator, videographer and everything else you can think of,) but it makes me appreciate the milestones of my business so much more.

Building a team around me as my business grows is also an amazing high.  Especially being able to support my colleagues and friends in their business growth. It’s always more fun to have teammates rooting for you!!

If you ever have any questions about the business of blogging I am more than happy to answer them! Just email me or leave a comment below. I have a few videos on my experience with blogging on my YouTube channel here and here. Make sure to subscribe for more videos coming up soon!
