outfit looks one // two // three

The rock star look is both rebellious and classic.  Rockers wear their bold pieces with confidence, and you must exude a similar level of self-assurance in order to pull off the look. One of the best ways to capture the rock star look is to use the main staples in your wardrobe and accent those pieces with your signature touches. You should also identify a few of your own favourite stars and take inspiration from their style.

Here are a few tricks to get your own rocker style…

Rock StarLeather

Your rocker-chick wardrobe won’t be complete without a few leather pieces. There are numerous ways to incorporate leather into your look. Turn heads with sleek black leather skirts or you could go simple with faux-leather leggings. A black leather jacket is another must-have piece; wear it with your little black dress for an evening out or with distressed jeans for daytime wear. Sweaters with leather panels are great during winter, and a leather skirt or dress is a terrific pick for an evening out.

Complete your wardrobe with black leather boots. Knee-high boots with tall heels will combine tough and sexy, or you could go for calf-high motorcycle boots for a more rugged look.

Leather has become a major part of the mainstream wardrobe – even for non-rockers- so you could turn it up a notch and differentiate yourself by combining leather with studs, spikes, chains and mesh on everything from your boots to your jacket and sweaters.

Studs

Give your outfits an edge that screams rocker chick with metal studs. Add studded details on your leather jacket, jeans, heels, tops, shorts, and bags to instantly transform them from mainstream to rocker. If you’re on a budget, you could purchase studs and spikes from the local craft store and give your wardrobe a complete makeover. Be careful though; you don’t want to overdo the studs. Attach them to pockets on your jeans or on your jacket’s shoulders or cuffs.

Slouchy tops and tees

Choose relaxed or slouchy tops and tee shirts. This means you might have to purchase one size up in order to achieve the slouchy look. When you’re wearing these tops, make sure you pair them with skinny jeans or sleek leather pants to balance your silhouette.

Basic crew neck tees in shades of white, gray or black go well under a leather jacket, but you could also wear signature tees emblazoned with your favourite quotes or the names of your favourite rocker bands. If you prefer long and loose tops, look for those with asymmetrical hems, which add an edge to your look.

Keep it messy

Messy makeup and hair are an important part of any rocker chick’s style. Don’t try to tame your natural curls, instead run your fingers through your hair to create a messy look like this one. Straight hair takes a bit more work to create a tousled look. However, if you use your curling iron to create loose curls and spritz with texturising spray, you might be able to maintain the style for a few days. Dark, smoky eyes are perfect for evening wear -don’t try this look for the office. Apply your black eyeliner and eye shadow generously and smudge to create a messy but smoky look.

Jewelery and other accessories

Round out your rocker chick wardrobe with the right accessories. You could wear one bold necklace or several smaller ones if you prefer. Single bangles or striking bracelets like the Bex Rox collection are sure to stand out. Try to wear all your bracelets on one wrist and your watch or stand out piece on the other.

Large hoops or simple studs along your ear line are a must. If you’re not fearful of piercings, then you could get several along your ears and nose. Keep in mind that you don’t necessarily need several piercings to look like a rock star. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your jewellery choices. Chunky jewels look amazing but simple pendants and crosses are just as effective. Pick up several pairs of over-sized sunglasses at your local thrift or designer store. Those with silver rims scream rocker, so don’t overlook those.

You don’t have to dress like a rock star every day if you don’t want to. But it’s good to have a few rocker pieces for those days when you want to look trendy and edgy. Start with a few basic pieces and add your unique style. Pull your look together with the right hair and makeup and you’ll know what it feels like to look like a rock star.
