5 Ways to Get Inspired Right Now

It’s natural to feel in a rut some days and be on cloud nine the next. As a creative, there are definitely days where my mind doesn’t want to cooperate or can’t seem to think of anything new and exciting. It will easily get distracted by things like social media, organizing and new recipes. As much as one might think social media is inspiring, and it can be, it can also suck you in for hours on end and spit you out making you feel even less inspired than you were before you started.

So how does one get inspired? Here is a list of a few ways to get inspired that help me get into the creative head-space and to “think outside the box” like I have been trying to do more of lately.

1. Hang out with friends

Sometimes we just need a different perspective. I love to be around my friends when I’m creatively stuck. Especially friends that inspire and motivate you. Let yourself talk about ideas and listen to their feedback.

2. Go to the mall

There’s nothing like a quick trip to the mall and a little window shopping to catch my eye and get my creative juices flowing. Often times I’ll walk into a store for just ONE item and walk out with an entire collection. That’s exactly what happened when I went into Target last year for bookends and ended up styling my entire house in West Palm Beach decor.

3. Read a magazine

I often tear out articles and photos that spark something inside of me. From those, I like to create an inspiration board like this one that hangs above my desk I can glance at for inspiring thoughts.

4. Watch a movie

(Particularly one with great styling): My favorites are always The Devil Wears Prada and lately the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The epic vintage styling has me pulling out all kinds of fun hats, full skirts, ladylike gloves, and bold lipstick. I channeled my inner Mrs. Maisel not too long ago in this blog post.

5. Browse Pinterest

Pinterest is my go-to for all things inspiration. I have a ton of boards dedicated to upcoming projects or trips I want to take like to Charleston. You can see and follow all of my boards right here.
