Is your home feeling a little bit different to how it used to? Perhaps this is because you have outgrown what you once thought you wanted, and now you want something different. Or, maybe you have not been maintaining the space the way that you should have, so it’s declined overall and now you’re struggling with it.
It can be tough when this happens, but you need to try and find a way to push through so that you’re not facing these issues any more. You can make a whole load of changes to your home, you don’t have to keep it the same simply because you’re the one who made it this way. So, without further ado, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the changes that we recommend you make if your home is no longer feeling like you. Keep reading if you would like to find out more.
Redecorate
The first thing that we’re going to talk about is redecorating. Redecorating your space doesn’t have to be a stressful time as long as you can keep yourself organized. It’s for this reason that we recommend going through this process one room at a time. If you do this, you don’t end up struggling to keep all of your materials in the right place, you don’t have to try and stretch your budget further than it’s willing to go, and more.
So, pick a room to start in, and get to work redecorating it. We recommend starting with a room that you are in regularly, as you want to start feeling the effects as soon as possible. This will usually be the kitchen, the living room or even your bedroom, and it needs to be turned into somewhere that you are happy. Think color, think layout, think general design. You can even use social media for inspiration if you’re struggling a little with what you may want.
Declutter
The next step on the list is going to be to declutter everything so that you have a clear space to live in. When your home is a mess, your mind is going to be a mess, and that’s one of the reasons you don’t want to be living in a home full of clutter.
We know though that it’s a lot of work to declutter your home, especially if this is not something that you have done in the last few years. In fact, your home may currently look like a hoarder’s dream place to live, which means that it’s going to take you a fair amount of time. But, you can enlist the help of someone that you trust to help you with this, so that it takes half the time it would take you alone.
If you start in one room at one end of your home, and then you can work your way around, one by one, until you’re finished. It does not have to be done all in the same day, so don’t stress yourself out about that. You should also come up with a system of what you’re going to throw out and what you’re going to keep. The best advice that we’ve got for you here is to throw anything that you don’t use, don’t need, and has no value to you.
Sort Your Appliances
It might be true that you’re tired of the appliances that you have because they have not been taken care of, or they are old and on their way out. The good news then is that you can get some new ones if you’ve got the money to be able to do so. You can purchase a new washing machine for example, and ensure that you’re helping it to last longer by using washing machine cleaner tablets once a month or so. The reason we say this is because a lot of washing machines break down due to poor maintenance, and you don’t want this when you’re getting a new one.
Go through all of your appliances in your home and see if they are broken, damaged, in need of repair or replacement. Of course, you can’t replace everything at the same time, but you can do it in smaller chunks until you feel happy with a newer feeling space.
Tech Is Your Friend
When you are kitting out your home, think of the type of tech that can be handy. There is so much out there these days, you barely have to do anything yourself. For example, you could get a bluetooth kettle that knows when you want a coffee. You could also get a smart fridge that can tell you exactly what is in there at any given time. You can also set these up to order food when you are running low.
New Furniture
Lastly, consider which furniture you want to invest in and add to your home and garden. If you are still working with your old furniture after a home renovation then this can stand out and look weird. However, you will need to plan which furniture to buy and go from there. It can be a bit daunting knowing what to look for. Sometimes it is best to head to your local furniture showroom or take a look online to get a better feel for it.
It might be that you need to make a list and start checking items off whenever you can afford to purchase them. This could be a new couch, there are some beautiful ones out there including ones that recline and have built in surround sound speakers. You might also need to buy new bedroom furniture, if you opt for a full set then this can look more professional. It usually comes complete with a bed, chest of drawers, and a wardrobe. Consider how much space you have to play with and always check measurements before you part with your hard earned cash.
We do hope you found this article helpful and it gave you some useful inspiration and ideas on how to make your home feel a bit more you. It can be tricky transforming a home that you have just purchased as sometimes you feel like the old people are still living there. Make small changes along the way, this will make a world of difference to how you view your property.
