How to Regain Control of Your Lawn

A backyard can be a beautiful thing, especially if you’ve got plenty of space to play around with. But if you lose control of your lawn, it can quickly look scruffy and become much more difficult to deal with.

You can use your lawn for a lot of things, whether you want to just enjoy the grass or you want to have picnics and an area for your kids to play. It’s important to have a lawn you can enjoy. Your backyard can also affect the value of your home, so it pays to have a nice garden area. With this in mind, here are a few ways to refresh your backyard and especially your lawn.

Creating Lawn Boundaries

One of the best things you can do to make sure that your lawn is as neat as possible is to create boundaries between your lawn and the rest of your backyard. Boundaries are easy to create.

You can make simple boundaries around your lawn simply by digging up the ground around them. This is free and can look neat without adding anything extra to your lawn, but it does require maintenance. Wood chips have a similar effect and are very cheap.

You can also use edging stones to create a very easy boundary that looks great. You can also use paths to make boundaries and provide walkways, which means that you don’t end up needlessly walking on the lawn itself.

Boundaries can also help you to section off parts of your backyard. So, if you want a lawn for your kids to play on, as well as a vegetable garden, creating boundaries communicates these areas without having to make fences everywhere. It looks neat and organized, all with minimal effort.

Getting Rid of Weeds

Weeds can be an absolute nightmare when you want a neat and orderly lawn. Thankfully, there are ways to get rid of weeds without having to dig up and replace the whole lawn.

First, make sure that you grow grass that is suited for your climate. If the grass struggles to grow, weeds will quickly fill in the gaps. Keep some grass seed handy so you can fill in any gaps that form anyway. Weeds will look for empty areas.

Use herbicides designed for specific weeds to get rid of stubborn weeds that aren’t easy to dig out. This includes crabgrass weed killer

Regular Maintenance

One of the most important things to remember is that a lawn needs time and maintenance. If you don’t have time to do it yourself, hire a regular gardener to mow your lawn and get rid of any weeds that crop up where they shouldn’t.

As well as a lawnmower to keep the length of your grass down, you should also consider a strimmer to help you with the more tricky edges of the lawn, keeping it tidy and even. You might also need to water the lawn at certain times of the year, but the right grass will provide a lawn that’s easier to manage.
