Are you someone who enjoys hosting and having your friends round for food or drinks? Being a good host brings a lot of joy to a lot of people – it’s very rewarding when people come round and say how nice your home is, how good your cooking has been as well as complimenting the drinks you have been serving.
To get these compliments, there is a lot of prep work that goes on behind the scenes. When you know you are hosting, a few days before, there are various things you can do to prepare yourself, to ensure the evening (or day) goes smoothly. You can start preparing your home interiors, practising new drinks recipes and planning the entertainment after food & drinks.
Below, we have put together a brief guide on getting prepared for having guests coming round.
Preparing your interiors
A good place to start is your interiors. There are so many things that you can do beforehand to get them prepared and ready for hosting. You can buy silk flowers bulk, and decorate your furniture with them. You can put some new pictures on the wall, to enhance your wall space as well as get a nice reed diffuser to make your home smell nice. One thing that can make a huge difference to your interiors is buying a tablecloth, this can quickly transform your dining room table.
Planning your entertainment
When you have guests around, you have to have some entertainment planned. It doesn’t have to be big, just something that breaks up the night, which you could do between courses, or after dessert. A simple one to go to is a board game or card game as these are easy to teach and can quickly be set up. Another option is to set up a karaoke machine. This can be very funny once everyone has had a few drinks. If you have a games console, there are various interactive games that get the group involved on there too, plus some are free.
Practising drink recipes
When people host, more often than not they will offer beer, prosecco, wine or a soft drink. This is fine and will do the job, however you could try and take things to the next level and offer cocktails or spirits with mixers, such as different gin mixers. If you don’t have time to mix drinks and create cocktails, you could always buy some cocktails in a can, for example a mojito in a can and serve these out. If you get the right brand, your guests will think you have made them yourself.
We hope you have a good time entertaining. What do you normally do first when you know you have guests coming round? Which of the tips above did you find most useful?
